During a twister, Dorothy is hit on the head by a fence and she is once again whisked to the land of Oz. But this time, on
her way to the Emerald City she discovers a terrible plot by the Witch Mombi to conquer Oz with an army of monster Green Elephants
that's she's brewing up.
She escapes with the help of Mombi's slave Pumpkinhead and together try to warn King Scarecrow and the her other friends
that Mombi is coming. But find that her friends haven't quite changed as much as she thought. So it's up to her, Pumpkinhead
and the living Carrasel horse Woodenhead to find a way to stop Mombi's Green Elephant.
Okay, this has got to be the best animated movie practically ever, it has good animation, a great cast, the supporting cast
does a great job. Memorable songs and great dialog. The cast does a great job and it's amazing how well this is put together.
I had the record soundtrack when I was a kid and watched every time it was on TV and now that is on DVD, I will be buying
it ASAP. But for now I must regale you with what I think of the best animated movie, even better then THE LAST UNICORN. That's
right, better. Not much better and it does get draggy at points. But a must for any fan of the WIZARD OF OZ and if you love
LIZA, then see the ironic movie that places her in the role that made her Mother a star. JOURNEY BACK TO OZ again and again,
I could agree more, in fact, I really can't think of adding this to this review that hasn't been said. The sear magic and
music is an experience that be explained in mere words. The sad part is that this thus far is the last of the musical Oz
adventures, RETURN TO OZ from 1986 is good but it's not a musical and that makes me said that musicals are getting few and
far between. I too give JOURNEY BACK TO OZ a perfect 10.
ON THE POSSITIVE SIDE (+ HITS):
+ MUSIC (The music is wonderful.)
+ STORY (The story really works.)
+ CHARACTERS (The old as well as the new characters are done well.)
+ ANIMATION (Not perfect, but compared to some of the animation of today, it's great.)
+ CAST (The cast of all stars prove they are great stars.)
ON THE NEGATIVE SIDE (- MISSES):
- DRAGS AT TIMES (The movie does get draggy at points.)
